Thrifting has gotten quite a following recently. Why? The cost of items has become so out-of-control that you have to use all means at your disposal to make ends meet. There’s no shame in that. People thrift for many reasons, such as thrifted clothes are cheaper, and can be just as wearable as clothes that come from the store that has been taken home for trying on, no telling how many times. Thrifting, like so many things, has changed in society’s view. Take, for example, marijuana; it use to send you to jail, and that’s slowly changing as people have recognized that there are good qualities to marijuana. The same with thrifting; it was looked down upon to buy clothes from stores like Goodwill, Salvation Army, and back in the day there was John’s Bargain Store. People did shop at these stores, but it was kept quiet. When you went into a store and you saw somebody you knew, you both looked the other way. That was just was the way it was.
Nowadays, you have all types of people combing through the clearance racks at stores trying to figure out how much of a markup they can add to a item’s cost. Here in Florida, thrifting is very very popular ;so popular that you have people lined up waiting for some thrift stores to open to get the bargains. When I witnessed this, I was blown away to see people in line waiting to get in. It was almost like Walmart’s early shopping at Christmas time. Wow!.
One of the most popular sites to sell your thrifted items on is Ebay. My spouse thrifts on Ebay, and it’s not as easy as you might think; especially to get your items up for sale within the first few items items people will see. My garage has become my spouse’s office. There are a couple of tables, a laptop, a camera, a tripod, white background, a steamer, and packaging. And then there’s the listing of your items, and you should post on a regular basis so that Ebay knows you are a serious seller. You have to deal with the customers, which can cause a lot of headaches. My spouse is very patient with people and, no matter how many times a customer asks for another picture, she will oblige them. You need a lot of patience; I just want to stress that again. There are plenty of YouTube videos out there that will tell you how to thrift and how to get views for your YouTube channels. You have lightly worn clothes, or things that you can’t fit (we all have clothes that we can’t wear). Thrifting might be a way to get rid of unused clothes, and make a few dollars on the side.
Thrifting is a lot of work, if you really want to be considered a thrifter. We at Unique Things can take care all of the headaches of thrifting for you; and remember, there’s no obligation to purchase if you change your mind and our fee is only $5.00 for searching for you. What can be better than that free shipping. Let us here at Unique Things shop for you. We offer free gift wrapping too.

Unique Things-Learn To Sell On EBay

We all would like to make extra money and the business of reselling seems to be a hit with a lot of people. My spouse K  got into reselling on Ebay recently and actually loves it. I recently went with her to a thrift shop and watched her work. It was nice to see her work as she checked items for its origin and scanned items to see what it was selling on places like Amazon and Walmart. I got a better understanding, though if you look at her makeshift garage office with boxes and products I sort of had a idea it was a lot harder than I gave her credit for.

Questions and Answers for Ebay Selling.

1. Compare Ebay to website selling on Unique Things.

Answer Question 1:   The biggest difference of selling on eBay is the traffic, consumers like to shop with establish brands. eBay has already earned a level ofconsumers trust. People need to know that they are shopping at store that’s not going out business soon. Unique Things is the new kid on the block, so we mustmarket our brand to drive consumers to our website.  Once you earn their trust they will continue to shop there. Biggest difference is established vs not having a name brand.

2. How did you get started with Ebay selling?

Answer Question 2:   It’s funny that you ask that question, it was never my intention to sell on eBay.  The products I was selling on Unique Things, my spouse didn’t think they belong on our Unique Things Store, so I was forced to remove, since I didn’t what to establish another, I throw them on eBay, and they started selling there.  So, we decide to move all the products from Unique Things to eBay, funny thing is the stuff we couldn’t sell on Unique Things store was selling on eBay. Again, that is why being an establish brand helps.

3. How do you find your merchandise?

Answer Question 3: I find my sources all over, I go to retailer’s clearance section, I have a business account with Earth Entertainment, I only joined them because I wanted Funko Pops at a discounted price. I also use BULQ, Bulq is where you can get returned items from stores that could’t move merchandise, so they need to make room for the new merchandise coming in. You don’t need a business license to get merchandise from them, there is also the thrift stores and yard sells that you can use for sourcing. I have put the link below for Bulq and Earth Entertainment and other sourcing website. Also, you can use offer up or let go, and even FB market place.   You can also get products from Alibaba and Dhgate. While I have used Alibaba in the I wouldn’t recommend their if you are just starting out because of the shipping. DHgate is a little better because it ships the products for free but they up the product to compensate for the shipping. I’m starting to get my sourcing for US because of the shipping cost.

Also, if you want to try it out you don’t have to worry about paying a monthly fee. Unless you decide to open a business account. Other than that, there’s hardly any downside to starting out on eBay.

10. What videos or websites do you use or would recommend?

Answer Question 10: I use YouTube videos, because I’m visible learner, I must see how it’s done. However, eBay offers some tutorial. There are books out there. I just prefer to watch videos because I can see how it works.

Unique Things-Ebay Selling

Glance Clock

Bluetooth Backpack

Unique Things store has relocated to Florida and it’s been insane trying to get Unique Things set up in a new state. It is hard enough moving with your personal items, but when you have to pack up and move products it can be overwhelming. We are both retired and now the business can get more attention. I have decided that writing is what I want to do and K would have full control of the business. She sort of took it over anyway. There are some people who can sit still and others who need to be occupied. For one thing it gives them something to do and the other, it keeps them out of trouble. I can sit still but she needs to be occupied. She made an office in the garage and me and GG and Mason had the rest of the house. She gets up like she was going to work and I might not see her until bedtime. Hmm, what was she doing? One day, while I getting something to drink, I heard ‘Ka-Ching’ – could that be the sound of money? I didn’t think so because the Unique Things website had just been put back online, and there had been no traffic so far…I decided it was time to become Sherlock Holmes. I would go to the garage under the pretext of needing to know something, it didn’t matter, I just wanted to look around. There were boxes of products, free-standing shelves with products, boxes and crates with bubble wrap and other shipping items. She had setup Stamps.com for mailing. Where had I been when all this was taking place? I couldn’t believe it.
Another Ka-Ching sound came from the computer. Of course, I had to ask “What’s that?”
 She said “We’re making money.”
“How?” I asked. I knew she was enjoying this, me asking her about making money.
She said that she’d been selling on Ebay some of the things from Unique Things along with Funkos and other items. Ebay selling was doing what having a website couldn’t do. She had poured so much of herself into the Unique Things website that I worried she’d exhaust herself trying to make it a success. She tried Facebook ads but didn’t like the fact that there is not a person to contact and you had to do everything through email. K used google adwords, but nothing seemed to drive enough traffic to the website. The traffic wasn’t consistent either – we could have 10 people one day and nothing for the next week.

K selling on Ebay happened because I didn’t want Funkos on the Unique Things website. I just didn’t feel they were unique enough for Unique Things. I have come to learn that Funkos are popular collectables that people pay a lot of money for. I just don’t see it.

Funko

Anyway, she decided to put them on Ebay along with some toys. She had bought a pallet of mystery toys cheaply. The toys were all in good condition and sellable. You just didn’t know what toys you were getting. The amount of toys you got could provide a nice little profit if sold. I really didn’t pay too much attention to her Ebay selling because the Unique Things website was frustrating me. I could not understand why the products weren’t running off the shelves. The products on the Unique Things website were unique. The items were not in retail stores yet. What was the problem? I thought it was price but K and I could never agree what a fair and profitable price should be. I thought the price needed to be lower than it was going to sell for retail. K felt the price should be the same as the retail price. I decided to stay in my lane, writing. She made the price the same as retail. She wanted to try different ideas to try and get a consistent flow of traffic to the Unique Things website and one of those things was taking some of the items on Unique Things and putting them on Ebay. When she did it I didn’t say anything. What could I say? By the time we moved to Florida I had given up hope on Unique Things. I couldn’t understand why other people didn’t feel that wow factor when they saw our products. I didn’t care what she did with the products at this point. One day I was standing in the kitchen and I heard the Ka-Ching sound. I thought another was sold. She does quite well selling the Funkos on Ebay. She has suppliers and everything. Anyway, she starts yelling “We sold a backpack.” I couldn’t believe it after almost two years of them being on the Unique Things website and nothing, and she puts it on Ebay in less than 2 weeks it was sold. You know, I was interested in Ebay now. I know you want to know how she does it but I’m not saying in this blog, so come back and find out her techniques and strategies for selling on Ebay. Have a great day.
